Play By: Elle Fanning [/scrolly] THE PERSONALITY [scrolly:h(120),w(400),sy]Likes: Stuffed Animals Cartoons Elderly People Grapes Blue Being outside Dislikes: Darkness Brown Shadows Yelling Being Startled Being Touched General: Leslie has an extremely complex personality. ((In rl, she would likely be diagnosed with developing schizophrenia.)) She is extremely smart and creative minded so she wasn't an easy child to make into "one of the herd" so to speak. Even at a young age, the girl had formulated ideas and opinions about her surrounding. The difference between her and others was that she dared to voice them, regardless of concequence. She was often punished for such things and so the girl spent much of her time in her own world, doodling and talking to "herself." Of course it is common for children to talk to their imaginary friends at a very young age, but Leslie never really stopped. She created her own little world to cope with the way the real world misunderstood her and confused her. Her personality is still developing but throughout her life she has gone from bold, troubled and opinionated, to simply troubled and opinionated. Yet there was another development thanks to the mess her life had been in the last few years. Leslie is also skiddish. She has taken far too much abuse for thoughts and now keeps them reserved for her friends in her own little wonderland. Now she rarely speaks to anyone and mainly talks to herself, though she has an air of creepiness as she often stares at people as if she is disecting them. In a way she is. People fascinate her in the way that Sharks fascinate people. In short, Leslie is still a child who is desperate for REAL ears and REAL voices. [/scrolly] THE SKILLS Due to the fact that Leslie is so young and was shot down for adventuring in most things, she has almost no skills to speak of except one. Nobody could keep paper and crayons from the child, so her sketching abilities, while disturbing, are quite impressive. THE MUTATIONS Manifestation would be the best way to describe Leslie's power. The power stems from her schizophrenia. In her mind she had "created" beings to help her cope. Her powers also "create." Since they are new and developing, her control is extremely limited and only a few instances of her powers have manifested at all. Her powers trigger most often in extreme emotional situations, however, once the manifestation forms, her reaction to it allows her to somewhat control it, usually through talking to it and pleading with it as if it were a sentient being and in a way, it is. At least this is what it appears to be for onlookers and to her knowlegdge. This is what she is ACTUALLY doing. What Leslie actually has is a form of Photokinesis that goes haywire upon emotional triggers. Like all people who go outside, Leslie absorbs the uv rays and then expels them at a later time. The light solidfies to become these shapes. The duration and power of the forms depend on a few things. How much access she has had to sunlight, and the dynamics of her emotions and concentration on the situation. When a manifestation forms, at first it looks like sparkling mist building up into a shape. It then hardens in to a crystalene or tinted glass form. The form is indeed breakable, as breakable as glass so its vulnerability is depenedent on the actual shape that is made and the thickness of the shape. Since the forms are dependent on the emotion, here is an idea of what some of them might look like. Also This power is in Development, so more "shapes" may be added periodically. Forms: |
The Guardian-Fear: This form has appeared a few times as Leslie is often frightened. It was the very first form that ever appeared when one of the staff of the asylum were coming to punish her. The form appears as a giant bird with abnormally long feathers on the tips of its wings. The wings wrap protectively around Leslie and form what looks to be a glass cage around her.
The Rain-Sadness: The mist forms into shards almost immdietly and fall down around Leslie. Its almost like she is at the center of a fountain and the water becomes solidified. Its as if the shape cries with her.
The Valley-Hate: Only once has this dangerous manifestation ever reared its ugly head and Leslie is quite terrified of it. The form starts as sparks shooting very quickly in the direction of what ever Leslie is angry at. The sparks connect and harden immediatly and form glass sickles from the ground up, and they travel in wave toward the target. The danger of being stricken by the sickles is about as dangerous as being caught in a wave of glass shards would be. The sickles form and disappear so fast that they would cut through quick and clean and in size they vary anywhere from daggers to swords.
The Forest Floor: This form is a rare but beautiful site indeed. It happens when Leslie's mind is completely at peace induced by things like music, or hypnotism. The form manifests as budding and blossoming golden flowers.

THE WEAKNESSES
In relation to her power, Leslie has many weaknesses. For one, expelling the uv rays she has absorbed leaves her in a state of exhaustion and even makes her vulnerable to getting sick from it depending on how much she expelled. The fact that she needs uv light for her power leaves her vulnerable in darkness if she hadn't gotten outside previously. Not to mention the poor thing is petrified of the dark.
The fact that she is homeless could also be considered a weakness. For one having absolutely no rescources makes it nearly impossible for her to fullfill even her most basic needs. Also the fact that she is starving is leaving her physically weakened. The young girl is already beginning to wilt.
She is alone in a cruel world with a mental disorder and a mutation. Her first reactions to her emotional pain cause her to stay put and make her own world so she doesn't often interact with real people at all. Also she is extremely young and has lived without kind guidance for quite a few years, so she is extremely naive and misguided.
THE HISTORY
Leslie was a beautiful child born to a functional family, the Nash's. They were so functional in fact that when they realized how disfunctional the youngest daughter was, it was very easy for them to cast the young girl out of the home. At first it seemed the girl was just spirited and quirky, but she was quickly evolving into the family's worst nightmare: a "problem child." All was well when she was too young to attend school, she was actually a fairly quiet child who spent most of her time doodling with crayons, while her older siblings, both girls, attended school and learned about all the glory of the United. Her family had quite a bit of wealth for the time so they could afford things like crayons and toys for their children.
Finally, Leslie came of age for school and was to join her sisters in classes, learning the ways of the world. Things went well for a few months, and the girl excelled in school. She was always the first to finish tasks and understand lessons. The little one was much too smart for her own good resulting in every adult's worst nightmare when dealing with children. Leslie was bored. The first incident happened when she was seven years old. Leslie was sent home with a stern warning to her parents that having the nerve to question why United was great in there ideals was very unbecoming. Little Leslie, of course, had no idea why exactly she was being punished.
From that point on, Leslie got in trouble in school fairly often, at least once every few months for various things like out bursts of her opinions, or disagreeing with a teacher, or even drawing in class ridiculous pictures of mythical creatures. Her parents were very concerned and they punished her often to the best of their abilities, but they were failing and they knew it. Around the time Leslie hit eleven she was considered to be a little freak at school and she had even gotten into a few fights, which she lost terribly. She was finally expelled from school after the fourth fight and it was decided that the child would never amount to anything useful and the school suggested a more "supervised" school for only the most trouble children.
Think of a school that closely resembles an asylum and you get exactly where Leslie was sent. The place was terrifying for her, the other children were violent and the faculty were crude and uncaring. After a few fights and even some very disturbing therapy, something about Leslie manifested that even the asylum couldn't handle. Leslie had a peculiar power that allowed her emotions to manifest into crystaline forms. The staff of the asylum were way in over their heads and they tried to give Leslie back to her parents who claimed they simply couldn't take her in. Nowhere to go, the now thirteen year old girl was rendered homeless. She spends her days wandering New York attempting to survive.

She did it again.
Why did you do it again? her thoughts asked.
Yeah what were you thinking? her thoughts agreed.
She had voiced her opinion about the cafeteria food at the awful school she was attending.
"I didn't mean to!" Leslie shouted at the darkness as she stood and ran to the light switch again trying to flip it back on, her teddy bunny flopping in her other hand.
You should have just ate it. Her voice told her.
"I know." She whimpered tears blurring her eyes as the shadows in the room crept up the walls to watch her.
Now you're hungry and you're being punished. Her thoughts laughed merrily at her and the shadows in the room agreed and laughed at her too.
"I know." she whispered sliding her back down the wall to fold into herself on the cold wooden floor. She squeezed her teddy bunny and cried into its tummy.
"STOP IT!" she shrieked at the laughing shadows. "BE QUEIT! I HATE YOU!" The door she was sitting next to opened a crack and bumped her side as it passed by her. A silhouette stepped through and glared down at her. She quickly tumbled away and climbed up onto the bed in a fetal position and shook with tears.
"If I have to tell you to shut your mouth one more time, I am gonna knock it off your face." The silhouette told her and the door closed with a slam and the lock clicked like the tongues of the laughing shadows. They erupted in laughter again and Leslie pulled her blankets up over her head to hide.
