Play By: Naomi Watts [/scrolly] THE PERSONALITY [scrolly:h(120),w(400),sy]Likes: Quiet Dogs Gotham Ramen Daddy Dislikes: Reavers United Kidnap Attempts Studying Bad Grades General: Avia is a pretty average teenager. She whines to her Daddy when she doesn’t get what she wants, she likes to lay around in her underwear listening to music, and she spends more free time at the mall with her friends than her father thinks is healthy. She loves ice cream. She’s pretty darn spoiled. Her father has indulged her so much that Avia would do anything to make him happy. Even sneak out and fight back against the organization he works for. Ignatius Merle has been forced under the hand of the United as their NYC Commisioner. He had not meant for it to go so far. What had originally started out as giving his daughter a better life turned into keeping her safe not only from Reavers, but repercussions if he didn’t perform his job adequately. Avia loves her father and wants to put an end to the United and the Reavers. She’s naïve enough to think that simply donning a costume and beating up some of their guys will create an effective result, but eventually she’ll see that bigger picture. She doesn’t trust easily, because trusting strangers gets you kidnapped, and is hard to approach. Once she warms up to you, though, her teenage ways shine through and she becomes friendly, sarcastic, and pretty easy to get along with. She has a sharp wit when she as the Red Hood that acts as both a shield and an instigator. If she can keep the bad guys on their toes, they’re easier to take down. If she sounds worried, they’ll use it to their advantage. Most of the time, as just plain Avia, she keeps her tongue in check until she wants to pick a fight with someone. She tends to do that, and she’ll do it even more to cover up for her injuries as Red Hood. It’s hard to explain a black eye that magically appeared over night… but Ester, that girl from school, yeah, she was mouthing off so she totally went over and kicked her skinny butt… yeah, that’s a good explanation. [/scrolly] THE SKILLS Avia grew up in the kind of atmosphere that required physical strength and training. Had she had things her way, she wouldn’t be any different than the other girls. But, because of her father’s position, she not only had bodyguards but also was taught from childhood to fight back. Her father took every precaution available to protect his only child. Because of these actions, Avia can fight on the same level as her attackers and is much stronger and faster than her peers. She can handle herself hand to hand as well as fire a gun with decent accuracy if she gets her hand on one. While she has no super powers, she has the necessary means to call herself among them. Her coat is lined with Kevlar and she carries things like a powerful taser and a couple of nightsticks around with her. Starting out, her arsenal is made up of pilfered police issue weaponry. She’s bound to move up in the world and start collecting cooler toys. THE MUTATIONS She possesses no perceivable mutations. THE WEAKNESSES Because Avia is a normal human, she has all of the human weaknesses. Of that, she is also still just a teenager and prone to make mistakes. No matter how crafty or cunning she can be, she still screws up from time to time and puts herself into danger. She has trained herself to take the hard hits, but she is not immune to pain and broken bones. Hit her hard enough and she will stay down. THE HISTORY When Avia was born, her father was a police officer for the Gotham City PD. His love for her pushed him to work harder and move up in the world. He was Captain when she was three. By seven, he was Commissioner. At thirteen, he accepted a position with the United’s leaders in New York City as the Commissioner of their elite police squad. There is nothing he regrets more than his ambition. Ever since making Commissioner back in Gotham, his little girl has been the subject of kidnapping and blackmail attempts on part of the Reavers. His ascension to GCPD Commish only made things worse. So, from the age of seven, he had the best teachers train his daughter to fight and to run, in order to keep her safe. He hired for her two bodyguards and a nanny to look after he when he could not and he dotes on his little girl like any loving father would in the absence of a mother. Growing up seeing the strain in her father’s eyes, Avia eventually began to hate the United as much as she did the Reavers who tried to use her as bargaining fodder. That hate grew into the need to do something. So, she began slowly putting together a new identity built on old newspapers. Four hundred years ago there were superheroes, the books hidden deep in the library told her. The books that had been tucked away in fear someone might read them gave knowledge of men and women who did the right thing. They told her about how life used to be. What it could be. An old computer granted her access to profiles and files on everyone who had been imprisoned on Arkham Island, Gotham, and other repositories on the superpowers that had captured them. She liked the Red Hood. The Red Hood was never the same twice. He didn’t have some kind of continuity outside the red hood that gave the name. The Red Hood was a criminal, yes, but in one instance, according to what she had researched, his reign over the crime world of Gotham actually reduced crime. There was nothing in there that said the Red Hood couldn’t be the good guy. So she took the moniker and she built a costume around it. She had to steal a few things from the police, like Kevlar, a taser or two, and other little things that they would not notice missing. She’s about to start sneaking out and becoming a vigilante. He laid down on her bed and used her teddy bear as support under his chest. “What guy?” Avia demanded, turning in her chair to shoot him a curious look. “This guy… this guy you and your girlfriends were chatting about today at the mall.” “You were at the mall?” “Well, your birthday is next week.” She laughed and got up off her chair. Avia crossed the room and sat next to her father on her bed, picking up a stuffed toy and stroking its fur. “There’s no guy, Daddy,” she assured him. “No guy?” “Nope.” “…Well, damn. Aren’t you a teenager? Shouldn’t you be off getting your heart broken by some rebellious upperclassman?” Avia snorted. “No.” “Dammit, Iggy, I want a reason to go shoot some poor unsuspecting upperclassman and be the hero of the day.” Avia laughed at her father’s indignation and leaned heavily on his shoulders. She brushed her hair behind her ear and kissed the top of his bald head. “You are my hero, Daddy.” Avia stood down a long stretch of an alley, gazing out at the street some hundred or so meters away. Her back was to the dead end, a brick wall that was ten foot tall. Around here were a dumpster, a basement door complete with working lift, lots of trash, a few stray cats, and a dead man. He’d been dead for some time, by the smell of him. Avia had threw up the first time she saw him, but she was getting better at walking past him, now. He’d been stripped of everything and left to die from what appeared to be two well placed bullets in his head. She thought about why she was doing this. Everytime she asked herself why she was going to go through with this crazy plot, the same memory of her father came up. He wanted to be a hero, but he already was. He was her hero. Well, now she was going to be his. Avia pried the basement door open just enough to climb onto the lift and pressed the button to send it down, pulling the door closed again behind her. It was pitch dark, but at the bottom of the lift, she knew, was a light switch. She pushed it in and waited for the old fluorescent lights to kick in. They started off pinkish, sluggishly, and then gradually warmed into a humming white light. The basement was a pretty decent size. It belonged to an old restaurant, so there were old pieces of equipment, extra chairs and tables, and an assortment of linens down there. The building itself had collapsed some few years ago, so there wouldn’t be any getting in from the inside door. The only way in was the basement door in the way back, by the dead body. Avia chose this place for that reason. She had been scoping out a place to stash her things for months and eventually stumbled on this basement. Once one got past the scary rotting corpse out front, this place was homey. Avia sighed and tugged off her shirt, digging her costume out from the back of an old oven. First, a cropped off zip-up with a dangly red hood. Second, a pair of white skinny pants. Third, a white leather jacket with the sleeves rolled twice to just below her elbows. Next, red boots. Finally, red leather gloves. The last and most important piece of her costume waited until after she had pulled her hair up into a tight chignon behind her head and tucked back a stray strand. While she had casually acquired most of her costume while at the mall or around other second hand shops, this one piece she had found after much searching. After careful consideration, some repainting and fixing, Avia had a mask. It was red, like her hood, and figured into a rather odd looking specter. If she was going to become a grey line between good and evil, she may as well look the part. This was it. She was The Red Hood. |
